What We Learned During Week 1 of the NFL Season

The opening Sunday of the NFL football season was very entertaining. The debuts of RGIII and Andrew Luck were highly anticipated as well as the debut game from Peyton Manning in a Denver Broncos uniform. There were many other highs and lows of the football week, but we will touch base on just a few. Take a look of what we learned during the opening week of the NFL season.

Peyton Manning is still…….Peyton Manning-There were many doubts surfacing about Peyton Manning since his departure from Indianapolis.  With last nights performance Manning silenced the critics, by carving up the Steelers defense for 252 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns.

RGIII is the REAL DEAL– RGIII outplayed Drew Brees in dramatic fashion. RGIII played a close to perfect game, and picked apart the Saints secondary as if they were Iowa State.  The sky is the limit for RGIII and the young Redskins.

Aaron Rodgers is human– Well, you can blame the defense of the San Francisco 49ers. Patrick Willis & Co bothered Rodgers all day and forced him to look uncomfortable for majority of the game. Rodgers is still the best quarterback in the NFL, but it was a sight to see the performance put on by the 49ers defense.

Atlanta Falcons are serious– The Dirty-birds look like they may have the most potent offense in the league after one game. The emergence of Julio Jones combining with the veteran savvy play by Michael Turner, Roddy White, Matt Ryan, and Tony Gonzales things could be quite scary for their foes in the NFC South.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is laughing straight to the bank– Fitzpatrick cashed in on a huge contract last season, and since he signed the dotted line he has resembled Shane Falco more than a franchise quarterback. Fitzpatrick’s interception blues continued and by throwing three to the J-E-T-S.  Will Buffalo regret their decision?

Rookie Quarterback Blues– Brandon Weeden, Ryan Tannehill, and Andrew Luck all threw for three or more interceptions. Luck flashed his potential and on a few occasions showed why he was the No.1 overall selection. At the end of the day he threw three interceptions, but there will be better days for Luck. With Tannehill and Weeden it was a sad sight to see. Weeden was out of sync the whole game, and did not look comfortable at all. Tannehill made a few plays, but when you are throwing to Derwin Davis like receivers it makes it hard to succeed.

Adrian Peterson and Maurice Jones-Drew are rare breeds– I know that both backs did not get over 100 yards, but both backs played great given the circumstances. Peterson fighting back from a torn ACL, and looked fluid while running for 84 yards to go along with two touchdowns.  Maurice Jones-Drew fresh off his holdout ran for a tough 77 yards, but that is a pretty good day for someone who didn’t have an off-season. Though the stats didn’t match what people are accustomed to seeing, but it was a positive day for both backs.

  1. I also learned the Bengals still have the same problems on defense as last year. Secondary play was a key failure yesterday. Also learned that the Dolphins are in trouble and the Ravens look like world beaters.

  2. Aye, Fitzpatrick is a bum I’m sorry robbing the Bills right now..
Andy Reid doesn’t run McCoy enough which is going to get everybody fired..
The 9ers d is the best in football, yep I said it and Alex was slanging that pill lol.
Willie that secondary was getting trashed but I still don’t trust Flacco and Ryan I’ll let the season play out.. let RG3 cook I’m out
