Michael Vick Gets another Shot at Redemption

michaelvickMany thought that Michael Vick would have been released by the Philadelphia Eagles after having his worse season as a pro. Vick recently restructured his deal to remain with the Eagles. This is sort of a one year trial to see how things go similar to what happened with Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers a few seasons ago. Last season Vick’s Eagles went 4-12 were at the bottom of the NFC East. Vick’s failures can be placed on himself, coaching, and offensive line depending on who you talk to. I feel that then Head Coach Andy Reid didn’t put Vick in the best position to succeed at the Quarterback position.

It appeared that Andy Reid wanted Michael Vick to be Aaron Rodgers rather than letting Vick be Vick. There should never be a time where Vick throws over 40 passes a game. With Reid at the helm, Vick had many of those games. We all know that Vick is not durable, and his offensive line is shaky so it didn’t make sense to expose him to opposing defenses. Vick was beat up like a piñata, and suffered injuries to his hand as well as having a concussion that forced him out of several games.

The Eagles new Head Coach Chip Kelly will attempt to “fix Vick” by bringing in his high powered offense from Oregon. I feel that Vick can be productive as long as the running game is there to protect him. For some odd reason under Reid and Mornhinweg it appeared that Eagles were allergic to giving the ball to LeSean McCoy. With a new scheme in plan Vick is not expected to be a gun slinger throwing the ball 40 times a game. With the new wave of mobile quarterbacks being used in today’s game I think one of the pioneers of being a mobile quarterback is in line for a successful season. I hope Vick can play well to shut up his haters, but like the seasons before you are only as good as your offensive line and coaches make you out to be.

  1. I’m happy he got another shot, Chip saved him because the writing was on the wall for it to be Foles team this year. He had to redo the deal because they were going to cut him. Smart on his behave I hope he plays solid.
