Big business killed the Big East Conference

Big East BannerWe as people have to adapt to change its the one constant in life besides taxes unless you live that life, but anyways you know what I’m saying. We all have to go through adjustment periods in life sometimes you like it sometimes you don’t but its apart of the rollercoaster called life.

The Big East as we know it is changing forever next year. The 2013-14 season will be a lot different for us the fan and all the teams that will or will not be associated with the historic conference. As an avid Cincinnati Bearcats fan I’m selfishly mad that this breakup is happening but I’m also happy for the teams who don’t have division I football schools standing up to the dual sport powers to protect a basketball rich conference. The Big East is like the holy grail of basketball when you look back on the history.

We all know football is controlling the reformation of all of these conferences especially the Big East. One big blunder that hurt this conference is their former commissioner John Marinatto wasn’t proactive in securing lucrative deals for the conference. He had a few on the table and dropped the ball when he didn’t commit to one and all of the big name schools started getting pilled like a banana. Once this started happening the commish just sat on his hand like the teams were going to comeback or like he didn’t need other good teams to come into the conference in help.

All in all we the fan will be robbed of one of the best basketball conferences in the country because of greed and a wack commissioner.

The Catholic 7 will take the name “Big East” which they deserve to keep. The Catholic 7 are: Georgetown, Villanova, St. John’s, Providence, Marquette, Seton Hall and DePaul. They will add Xavier, Bulter and Creighton. It is possible Dayton and St. Louis will be added to the mix also. This will be a good basketball conference next year no matter if the extra two teams are added or not. The new Big East is suppose to have a TV deal lined up with FOX.

The teams that will form the American 12 will be Cincinnati, Connecticut and South Florida from the current Big East. SMU, Temple, Tulane, Houston, Navy, Central Florida, Memphis and East Carolina will round out the American 12 these current events lost the conference formerly known as the Big East Boise St. and San Diego St. The three hold over schools will get the majority of the exit fee money which is to be around 100 million. The Big cough I mean American 12 has a deal signed from the older Big East formation of 7 years 130 million dollars with ESPN, which is a solid foundation for the conference.

The money from the buyout will help the remaining schools but I still believe there will be more movement. Everything is about money for a sport where the athletes don’t get paid. Please save the weak they get a free education shit for another post, even though they do get a free education which is great but these universities make millions but I’ll save that argument for another day. Greed of the universities is damaging the purity of the game and pretty much made this conference crumble before us.

RIP the Big East as we know it, damn you Greed!!!!

  1. It is sad to see arguably the best basketball conference in College Basketball History fizzle out.
