The Spurs unsung hero, Kawhi Leonard

We you think of the Spurs, you think of a team that pretty much flew under the radar because of the lack of media coverage. The hot beds for the media are Miami, LA and NY, we understand why but at the same time because of this lack of attention the common fan has been cheated with the chance to learn about a hidden gem that happens to play for the Spurs.NBA: Finals-San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat

Who is the hidden gem? Kawhi Leonard. Leonard was originally drafted by the Pacers with the 15th pick of the 2011 draft. During draft night the Spurs traded Guard George Hill for the Leonard straight up. The trade seemed to work great for both teams but the more I see the Spurs play I feel like the Spurs have gotten the best of the trade.

During Leonard’s two years with the Spurs he has been a very versatile piece that has allowed this team to prosper. On defense he can guard players from 1 to 3 effectively and if teams go small he can handle most 4’s. He gets rebounds very well and causes a lot of steals with his athletic ability and long arms. On offense he shoots solid percentages from the field, 3 point line and free throw line. He doesn’t shoot a lot but when he does its never a bad shot.

In the Finals Leonard has the task of guarding the best player on the planet, LeBron James. Which won’t be an easy task but Kawhi will do a solid job because that’s what he’s done all year. The way their team is built, if they didn’t make the trade for Leonard who would they put on the big wings? San Antonio knew what they were doing when they made the trade for Kawhi and he’s proving he will be a contributor for a long time in the league.

It’s time for the masses to take note on how good of a player Leonard is. Keep doing your thing my cornrolled brother.
