Is a 305 million dollar contract even feasible for Robinson Cano?

canoSo as everyone knows there are rumors that current New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and soon to be free agent is asking for a 10 year 305 million dollar contract. Cano is a recent signee to the RocNation Sports agency.

The first thing I said to myself is that Cano has no chance in hell to get this contract. Personally he’s not even clear cut and above the best second baseman, looks at Brandon Phillips. The Yankees have gotten better at giving out big contracts so lets see how the second baseman market has been getting paid lately.

Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox, 8 years 110 million

Brandon Phillips, Cincinnati Reds, 6 years 72.5 million

Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies, 2 years, 27 million

Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers, 5 years 75 million

Dan Uggla, Atlanta Braves, 5 years 62 million

The second baseman aren’t at the top of the food chain right now. Lets see who have the mega contracts nobody isn’t in the 305 range: (3 most recent megadeals)

Albert Pujols, Los Angeles Angels, 10 years 240 million

Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds, 10 years 225 million

Prince Fiedler, Detroit Tigers, 9 years 214 million

Honestly this number leaked to set the bar high they know they won’t get that much but its a smart ploy. Cano will get paid swell this off season but it won’t be the Miami area code. I can’t wait to see how these negotiations go over the winter.
