2014: Just Tag Me

The NFL’s “Franchise Tag” deadline has pasted, so now we know which potential free agents will remain with their current teams. Some players despise this being tagged because a lot of times long-term deals don’t get done.

This year a few teams used the seldom used “Transition Tag”, we will highlight those tagged players also.

Let’s check out the players who were “Franchise Tagged” this year:

New Orleans Saints- Jimmy Graham, TE

Carolina Panthers- Greg Hardy, DE

Washington Redskins- Brian Orakpo, LB

New York Jets- Nick Folk, K

Transition tagged players:

Cleveland Browns- Alex Mack, C

Pittsburgh Steelers- Jason Worilds, LB

Teams who have tagged players have until July 15th if they want to give the player a multi-year deal.

Transition tag allows a team to match other offers from teams who pursue their player. They don’t get compensation that may be possible if the player was franchise tagged. The payout is also around 15-20% less for a transition tagged player.

With the player’s that have been tagged which one’s should receive a big pay-day soon? Let us know your opinion.
