Four teams who can beat Kentucky in the NCAA tournament

Yesterday, Ron wrote a post about the Kentucky Wildcats going wire to wire and winning the National Championship. While I agree it is a very likely possibility, I’ll throw wrench into the argument pointing a few teams that have an opportunity to beat the Wildcats if they are lucky enough to matchup with them this March/April.

The Four teams in the pool:

Notre Dame Fighting Irish– Now this team has a lot of scorers and can spread out any team it plays which is something you have to be able to do if you even dream of having a shot against UK this year. The Irish also are in the Midwest region and could play them as soon as the Elite 8.

Wisconsin Badgers– The Badgers have Frank Kaminsky, his skill alone will give the UK bigs fits if he can stay out of trouble. The Badgers always keep a team full of shooters and if they could keep UK off balance by drawing the big guys from under the rim anything could happen. Wisconsin wouldn’t meet UK until the Final Four if it worked out perfectly.

Duke Blue Devils- This team is a very complete and could give UK a run for its money if it plays a complete game. Okafor, Jones and Cook give Duke a great inside/outside game. I think the key would be how effective Okafor could be going against multiple seven footers being he is more of a back to the basket player. If Duke and UK meet up it would be until the National Championship game.

Gonzaga Bulldogs- If there is one team who can match size with UK it is Gonzaga. Do they have the athleticism? Probably not, but how cool would it be to see Kyle Wiltjer give UK buckets? This team also has solid guard play led by Kevin Pangos. Gonzaga is known for losing early and they would only meet UK in the National Championship game.

These are the teams I think would have a fighting chance against UK. Which teams do you think have a shot to stop UK’s perfect season? Meet us in the comment box!
