Sponsorship: Pepsi & the NBA

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced a multi-year sponsorship deal with PepsiCo.

Previously, Coca-Cola was the official food and beverage sponsor for both the NBA and WNBA. Even when Coke was the official food and beverage sponsor the NBA also had an agreement with PepsiCo involving the use of Gatorade products. Under Coca-Cola’s contract they promoted the Sprite brand. With PepsiCo’s new deal they will focus on promoting Mountain Dew, Aquafina, Brisk, Ruffles and Doritos to NBA fans.

This new deal with PepsiCo gives the company a huge presence in the four major sports leagues in the US. The National Football League (NFL) Major League Baseball (MLB) the National Hockey League (NHL) and now the National Basketball Association (NBA). In addition to the four major sports leagues and the WNBA this also gives PepsiCo a presence with the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) and USA Basketball.

The financial terms on this multi-year deal have not been disclosed in full just yet, but I am sure the figures are significant.
