NKU lands transfer forward Jeff Garrett from Alabama

Great move by new head coach John Brannen landing some top tier talent for the Norse this move will help during the 2016-17 season when Garrett is eligible to play with the Norse. Hopefully this will soften the blow of losing Daniel Camps and Tayler Persons via transfer.

Jeff Garrett has officially committed to join Northern Kentucky’s men’s basketball team beginning with the fall of the 2015-16 season.

“I would like to welcome Jeff and his family to Northern Kentucky University,” said head men’s basketball coach John Brannen. “Jeff’s length and athleticism at the wing position is a great fit for our style of play. Our fans will enjoy watching him compete in 2016-17.”

Garrett redshirted last season at Alabama after closing his high school career at Oldsmar Christian in Florida, where he averaged 18.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game as a senior. The native of Gadsden, Alabama, started his prep career at Gadsden City High School, earning 6A first-team all-state honors in 2013 after averaging 14.4 points and 10.2 boards per game as a junior.

247sports.com rated Garrett a three-star recruit coming out of high school, as well as the 17th-best prospect in Florida and 35th-best forward in the nation.

Garrett will sit one season per NCAA transfer rules before taking the court for the Norse in the 2016-17 campaign.
