Reggie Jackson bet on himself and won

Last year when the Oklahoma City Thunder offered backup point guard four years $48 million we all thought that was a more than fair offer. Little did we know a year later Reggie Jackson would net a five year deal worth $80 million.

Two things worked out for Jackson first he was traded to the Detroit Pistons before the deadline after Brandon Jennings went down for the year. Second he balled out when he got a chance to be the starting point guard. I know he played very good in spot duty for the Thunder, but from day one in Detroit we all knew Jackson had the keys to the car and he rewarded them with a great showing.

In 27 games Jackson averaged 17.6 points, 9.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Not bad at all. Was it fools gold? I don’t think so. He won himself $20 million (if the fifth year of his deal would’ve been $12 million) by betting on himself.

Detroit know has backed their point guard and Reggie’s pockets are thankful.
