Kenyon Martin Says Farewell to NBA, But Not Forgotten at UC

It has been a long time coming UC fans; today is Kenyon Martin appreciation day. On July 2nd, former Cincinnati Bearcat great Kenyon Martin decided to hang up his sneakers after a nice 15 year career.

Martin was the 1st pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets (Brooklyn Nets for you youngsters). He went on to become an all-star and defensive Stallworth during his time in the NBA. He played for the Nets, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks and Bucks but we are here to highlight his UC contributions.

During his 4 years in Clifton, Martin topped it off with a great senior campaign where he was AP Player of the Year, Consensus All- America 1st team, NABC Defensive Player of the Year, NABC Player of the year, Naismith Award, Rupp Trophy, Sporting News Player of the Year, USBWA Player of the Year and Wooden Award.

Pretty much any award that was available the 1999-00 season Martin won it. He averaged 18.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.4 steals a game. To plainly say it he was “everywhere”. I believe in my heart that if Martin didn’t get hurt in the C-USA tournament his senior year the Bearcats would’ve won the National Title, but we are not here to cry over spilled milk, but it’s valid.

UC fans show your appreciation to Kenyon Martin, he’s one of the all-time greats in Bearcat land.
