Bengals draft Williams with Haskins available, will they make a play for a quarterback?

First, I want to say this article is only made possible because of the New York Giants with the sixth pick they drafted Daniel Jones from Duke. Jones will now be the quarterback in training for the Giants, but the consensus player was tabbed to be Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. Haskins was ranked between 5-10 on most boards and Jones was ranked in the 20-30 range on most boards. So, when the the Pittsburgh Steelers traded ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals to select linebacker Devin Bush, most thought if the Bengals couldn’t get Bush or Devin White the dream scenario would be Haskins, but they selected offensive tackle Jonah Williams.

Another year the Bengals pass on a potential franchise changing quarterback in the first round. Do they believe Andy Dalton is the present and the future? He has two years left on his deal and he will be due for a HUGE raise if they keep him. Williams is arguably the best lineman in the draft so you can’t be mad at the pick if they can do one of two things soon: Either trade for Josh Rosen or draft Drew Lock. With the Arizona Cardinals drafting Kyler Murray, we all know Rosen is on the block so the Bengals need to offer a two pick package that can get the deal done. Rosen would better the better play overall because he was rated so high coming into the draft. I wouldn’t look at his stats last year as an indictment of his skills, the Cardinals didn’t have many weapons and have a terrible offensive line. Before last season all the experts had Lock labeled as the best quarterback in this draft, but Haskins, Murray and Jones happened, but if Zac Taylor and his staff can work their magic on him they could end up with a second round steal if they pick him Friday night and that may include a trade up scenario.

The Bengals have to make something happen at the quarterback position because it’s tough when your current quarterback has limitations. A nice strong armed player would do this franchise wonders.
