Bearcats bye week check in: Defense

*If you missed part one where we graded out the Bearcats offense earlier this week make sure you check it out!

A major reason for the Bearcats 6-1 start, and a major reason why they have legitimate New Year’s Day bowl game hopes is because of how well, and how consistent the defense has played this season. Yes, detractors will look at the OSU game and say well then why did they give up 42 to the Buckeyes? Well to put it simply because OSU looks to be one of the best teams in school history and 42 is the second lowest point total they’ve been held to all season. Even with that 42 point outlier in Columbus, the Bearcats are only giving up an average of 20.4 points per game, and they were the only team in 32 games to hold the UCF Knights under 30 points, snapping the longest such streak in the history of the poll-era. Let’s now take a look by position at what makes this group so great.
