Desmond Ridder and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner face off on MNF like old times

The Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets faced off in preseason Week 2. That meant a reunion for old teammates Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Desmond Ridder. Sauce was not in for long as he only played the first two drives, but he was impressive when he was in. Just like college Sauce really didn’t see anything thrown his way and was everywhere no matter where the ball was going.

Desmond Ridder entered after a couple of drives from Marcus Mariota and he impressed everyone watching. Ridder finished 10-of-13 for 143 yards and a QB Rating of 112.0. That is a very impressive stat line for the first-year quarterback. The best thing about Desmond Ridder’s night was the little things that the ESPN crew and I picked up on. While playing in the rain at MetLife, he was being extra precautionary and was making all the right reads even through the penalties that his offensive line was being called for. Ridder received some high praise from ESPN’s Louis Riddick in the broadcast “The efficiency for Atlanta starting with QB play has been really impressive. I don’t care who they’re going up against. These guys have played fast and have made good decisions, they’ve thrown the football with great accuracy. Especially Desmond Ridder.” In the end, Ridder moved the ball really well on all drives and looked comfortable in the pocket. We will have to see how Desmond builds on these two preseason games, but so far so good for the former Bearcat.
