WVB: Bearcats fall to Memphis in hard fought three set to one battle

Set 3- The Tigers would come out firing as they jumped out to an early three to zero lead over the Bearcats following consecutive kills from Miaya Smith and an ace from Jasmyn Tate as the Tigers were looking to revenge their set two loss right out of the gate. The Bearcats would see this be a back-and-forth battle as we were tied up at 12 after all the momentum looked to be favoring the Bearcats, the Tigers weren’t shying away one bit. However, Bearcat Emme Madden recorded her 1000th career assist here in Set 3 as the sophomore setter continued to facilitate the Bearcats offense as they looked to get back in the win column after the sophomore setter missed the team’s first 12 matches. The Tigers would however take a 17-15 lead over the Bearcats forcing coach Molly Alvey to call timeout as they looked to flip the momentum here late in the set, but the Bearcats would be forced to burn their second and final timeout shortly after as the Tigers kept their foot on the gas and took a 19-15 lead. The Bearcats would be forced to make a late comeback as they would trail 21-15 as the Tigers were starting to find the gaps in the Bearcats defense and continue to find the seams and put balls away. The Tigers would eventually hold on to take Set 3, 25-20 after a Loren Robertson setter kill would give the Tigers a two set to one lead over the Bearcats.

Set 4- The Tigers would jump out to an early 4-1 lead, but the Bearcats offense would get rolling after consecutive kills by Glendinning would cut the Tigers lead to just one where they trailed 4-3. The Tigers would respond and take a 7-3 lead following kills from Smith and Wilson as they were looking to build momentum early here in Set 4 as they were looking to close this match out. The Bearcats were forced to take their final timeout as they trailed 16-10 and were looking to put together some momentum here late. The Tigers would overcome a late Bearcats push as the Bearcats cut the Tigers lead to as much as 2, but the Tigers would prevail 3 hold on to take set four 25-22 and defeat the Bearcats three sets to one.

Notables- Avry Tatum tied her career high with 18 kills while hitting a team high .417% on the match, along with three blocks at the net.

Carly Glendinning recorded her 5th straight match with 10 or more kills dating back to September 17th vs Xavier, as she finished with 16 kills while hitting .244 on the match along with two blocks.

Abby Walker and Kailea Carrier each with four blocks.

Payton Frederick a game high 18 digs and three service aces.

Setter Emme Madden would record her 1000th career assist.

The Bearcats now fall to (3-11) on the season while just (1-3 AAC) as they look to get back in the win column this week as kick off a two game road trip as they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on Temple Friday at 7 pm before heading to Greenville, North Carolina to take on Eastern Carolina University on Sunday at 12 pm.
