Previewing the Bearcats next opponent: Miami RedHawks

Nipp at Night is officially back for the 2023 season as the Bearcats welcome in crosstown rival Miami to Nippert Stadium this Saturday for the annual Battle of the Victory Bell. Cincinnati enters this one 2-0 following a huge 27-21 victory over Pittsburgh, while the RedHawks enter Saturday 1-1 after their 41-28 victory over UMass.

The Bearcats enter Saturday’s matchup with the nation’s highest home winning percentage (96.3%, 26-1) record since the start of the 2019 season tying Clemson. However, for the Bearcats they enter this one 33-1 in their last 34 home games, which is extremely impressive if you ask me. We all know what the Bearcats fans will bring to Nippert Stadium come Saturday night, especially being the annual Nipp at Night matchup.

“I’m very excited for Saturday’s matchup with Miami,” said Scott Satterfield. “I’m really excited to be able to play at Nippert Stadium at night. Our first game vs EKU was awesome, but I’m sure this one is going to have a little more electric to it. The students will be out, and fans will have plenty of time to tailgate and have fun beforehand.”

This Saturday’s matchup with Miami will be the 127th battle of the victory bell dating all the way back to December 8th, 1888. The Bearcats lead the all time series 60-59-7 after winning the last 15 matchups between the programs as the Bearcats have found a permanent home for the victory bell in the Lindner center it seems after winning the last 15 matchups between programs.

The Bearcats retained the victory bell last season defeating the RedHawks 38-17 at Paycor Stadium. A game in which Miami controlled an early 17-7 lead early in the second quarter before the Bearcats rattled off 31 unanswered points.

“We know this is a rivalry game, we know what is at stake, and know we are going to get Miami’s best shot. They are going to come in here and play as hard as they possible can play,” said Satterfield. “Whatever they show on tape, you can go head and elevate that because that is the way Miami plays.”

However, for the Bearcats, Scott Satterfield provided another update on defensive back Sammy Anderson, who missed the Pittsburgh game due to an injury he sustained vs Eastern Kentucky University.

“We hope to have him back, but it is up to what the medical staff is saying on him. I know Sammy wants to be out there; we want him out there playing as well. We are certainly going to listen to what the doctors have to say in his regard. We are still waiting on some tests, and we will see where we are at with that. We will see where we are at with Sammy here in the next couple days.”
