Looking at the National League Wildcard race

RedsxPiratesWith less than two weeks left in the season we need to see who still has a shot to play some ball in October.

There are two teams who will have a shot at the one game playoff for the wildcard position. After playing 162 games the one game playoff will be a gift to some and a curse to others depending on how that team arrived to that point.

The National League’s race is a tight one but doesn’t involve many teams. Because of the competitiveness of the NL Central the three teams (Reds, Pirates and Cardinals) have been playing musical chairs all year.

The season ends on September 29th let’s see who still have a fighting chance to make the playoffs. (Records are as of the morning of 9/18)

Pittsburgh Pirates (87-64)– The Pirates are in good shape but they play the Reds in 7 games to end the season it could be a way for them to take control of the Central or the Nats may be able to leap frog them.

Cincinnati Reds (86-66)- The Reds are in good shape but they play 7 games to end the season against the Pirates, could be a way for the Nats to leap frog them.

Washington Nationals (81-70) 4.5 games back- The Nationals are the only real threat to the Cards, Reds or Pirates. I say Cards because they are 1 game up on the Pirates and 2.5 games up on the Reds currently.

Arizona Diamondbacks (76-74) 9 games back- To be honest the Diamondbacks are holding on for dear life.

September 29th will be the last day of the season, who will be in the one game playoff?
