NFL Free Agency: Michael Vick to the Jets Makes Sense

This week NFL teams are rolling out millions of dollars to NFL players. With free agency in full effect there will be several acquisitions that can help teams make it to the next level. One person to keep an eye out for is Michael Vick.

Vick is on the market and will be available at a reasonable price. While in Philadelphia Vick had some great moments there were some not so great moments as well. Vick has battled issues with injuries and ball security, but when healthy and playing in a less demanding role Vick can be very successful. Vick also showed that he was a great mentor and team player after Nick Foles stepped in the starting role.

I feel that the New York Jets is the ideal landing spot for Vick. With Vick being 33 years of age he is not expected to be a starting quarterback for many years to come. Vick can possibly help the Jets for two to three years as a stop gap QB that can hold the team over until they groom or draft a young QB. I know that Geno Smith was the starter last season, but he has a lot of improving to do.

Vick’s former offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinwheg is running the Jets offense, and the familiarity would make it an easy transition. People don’t realize that the Jets were 8-8 last season and were just a few turnovers away from a playoff bid. Rex Ryan did a masterful job last season, but he won’t get the credit.

Rex Ryan’s teams will always play tough defense and run the ball. With Vick at the helm it will give the Jets a dynamic that they haven’t had in Ryan’s tenure as a head coach. If I am in the front office of the Jets I take a chance on Vick. When Vick’s back is against the wall he seems to always flourish, and the perfect opportunity awaits him in Gotham City.
