The Return of the Mack: Anderson Silva

Saturdays January 31st UFC 183 bout between Anderson “the spider” Silva and Nick “the Stockton Brawler” Diaz went the distance but showed less fireworks than expected. Even still the match brought back some excitement to the world of ultimate fighting. At the end of 5 rounds Silva got the decision over Diaz in a bout with no titles on the line. Silva won 2 rounds 50-45 and another 49-46.
It had been a span of 399 days since Anderson last participated in a fight. In the match prior to this one he lost to Chris Weidman by way of a TKO at UFC 168. He also suffered a vicious broken leg in the match. At 39 years old many including Silva did not think he would be able to return from that.
Diaz also returned from a long layoff losing every round in his previous fight to Georges St-Pierre. At 31 years old much younger than Silva, he looked to reestablish himself by beating a legend like Silva. Interviewed after the fight he said he felt he won every round as he was the aggressor stating Silva did allot of standing around.
Silva in interviews after the fight said that he felt good out there but was unsure about his career path from this point. He stated he has to talk with his family admitting his son cried before this match telling him he doesn’t need to fight anymore.
