Last month we thought Adrien Broner was supposed to fight Rances Barthelemy on June 20th, but I guess that fell through and now we have a “Battle of Ohio” in the boxing world lined up. Broner, a Cincinnati native is set to face Shawn Porter, a Cleveland native on the 20th of June. This match was supposed to be in Cincinnati, but Kevin Hart already had the US Bank Arena booked for the 20th (sad boyz).
Broner and Porter are reportedly supposed to fight at a catch weight of either 144 or 145 lbs. The fight will be at the MGM Grand and will be a Premier Boxing Championship event aired on NBC.
Broner is 30-1 with 22 knockouts and Porter is 25-1-1 with 16 knockouts.
Porter is a fighter who likes to apply a lot of pressure when he attacks, if Broner is sharp he should have a lot of counter punching opportunities, but if he isn’t Porter has the power to put Broner under pressure and maybe get him out of the ring. I like the way Broner fought against Molina in March and if he’s that sharp he should be able to offset Porter’s pressure with precise punching. Porter is naturally the bigger man so watch out for the after the weigh in weight that will be telling on June 20th.
The battle of 71, will happen out in Vegas who do you have? This is a big fight for both contestants win or lose you have to respect them for signing on the dotted line.
