Mavs land Porzingis, Knicks land Smith, Jr.

With the trade deadline coming up I thought I’d see news with Anthony Davis being moved from the Pelicans, but when a news flash popped up on my TV it showed that the New York Knicks had traded star forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks. Rumblings just came out that he wanted out, but it was interesting to see the star dealt before playing a game in the 2018-19 season.

Trade Details:

Knicks get:

G Dennis Smith, Jr.

G Wesley Matthews

C DeAndre Jordan

Mavs get:

F Kristaps Porzingis

G Courtney Lee

G Tim Hardaway, Jr.

G Trey Burke

We knew that Smith, Jr. needed a change of scenery with the arrival of Luka Doncic, but at the same time the Knicks should’ve already drafted him, but Phil Jackson was sleep at the wheel. Porzingis will be due to an extension over the summer, so it was shocking to see the Knicks deal a player they had control over for at least another year and a half. Do the Knicks know something about his knee that the masses don’t? If they do then it could be an even trade if not the Mavs now have a pair of the most exciting foreign players in the NBA.

The Knicks may also acquire a pick from the Mavs in this trade.

Who do you think won this deal? Knicks added financial flexibility and the Mavs added another star and two great compliment players. Your thoughts?
