From the past to the present, taking a look back at the Bearcats foundation

Dan Sellers, linebacker (1983-1987)

Looking back at his time as a Bearcat:

“We played against a lot of big schools as an Independent program, we beat Penn State (during my freshman year the year after they won the National Championship), Virginia Tech (twice), Boston College and others. The Notre Dame win was very important because of the location of two schools, Cincinnati (high school) having a strong catholic background in the high school scene. Players would go straight to ND and overlook the city. To see them dominate a program such as Notre Dame it was impressive because of the history Notre Dame has.”

Thoughts on the current teams run:

“You got back to the years I was WSAI in the 90’s covering the games and doing post game shows Don, it was the low days, they were talking about canceling the program. It is amazing, but I crazily thought it was always possible because of the talent in the state of Ohio. Once we established ourselves in the Big East, even when we had to go to the American, but I think the AAC is better than the ACC especially this year. This team has been so consistent the last few years, Fickell has been that guy and he’s been loyal to the program. It is a great feeling.”

Carl Jones, running back (2001-2004)

Thoughts on the current teams run:

“It’s great, I’m from Tampa, Florida home of USF and I rep Cincinnati big down here we got something to be proud of. I’m out here bringing out all my old Cincy gear repping hard. Running back Jerome Ford went to my high school and played for the same little league team as well. It’s cool to see him ballin’ and my school on the National stage.”

Looking at his time as a Bearcat:

“I thought they would make a jump because during my time they changed their recruiting style they started getting people from different areas and it was a good mix. The guys before me started making bowl games and we followed up. The coaching just kept getting better and better so you get better recruits and I don’t think it’s going to stop. The ground work was laid by people before me, but our teams helped a positive traction as well.”
